My 10 Blogging Commandments.

April 11, 2017

Blogging is literally my favorite thing in my world. It's my online diary that keeps me totally sane. It's a pain in my butt, it keeps me up at night, but mostly, it makes me so dang happy. It might be nothing more than my favorite Denver hot-spots, but there is something about telling my story that just feels damn good.

Quick story: My hubs is the cutest. On Sunday, I was busy running errands, doing laundry, trying to watch the Masters while cooking dinner and he stopped me and told me to go blog a little bit. He 100% knows my heart and he knows when I need a little me time. Granted a little me time turned in to 2 hours of undivided blog attention, but it was what I needed after a very long week.

Me time = Law and Order SVU, a closed office door and this space. It's the perfect time to just zone out. Oh blogging, the funny, amazing game you are. I love it, but man, it's a tough gig.

I've been around the block a little. I started this blog in August, 2009. Feel free to read my first post, it's horribly embarrassing, but honestly refreshing. I'd like to think I've learned a think or two about this business, so here ya go. But let's get this straight, I am no blogging guru. I just know what has worked with me.

1. Be kind. Blogging is hard. People are mean. Be kind to people. We're all just doing the very best we can. Imagine how bad a mean comment hurts, but how encouraging a good word is.

2. Comment, comment, comment. Engage with other bloggers. This community is so incredible. Don't expect to grow if you don't help others grow too. That goes for Instagram too. My favorite part of the day is when I get to sit, grab my inbox and read all my favorite blogs. It's like catching up with friends.

3. Be authentic. Do you like the post you're about to hit Publish on? If so, post away. If not, re-think what you're doing. People will see through the crap. I used to follow a blogger (for yearss) and recently all she blogs about is stuff she's selling. And it's not good stuff, it's bad stuff. I feel a sense of loyalty to her, but the blogger I knew is gone. Stay true to yourself and your readers will stay true to you. Trust me, I have blogged some weirddddd stuff. Sometimes I wish I hadn't hit publish. But we live and we learn.
Stay true to yourself and your readers will stay true to you. #everygracetips
— Everyday Grace (@kristengrace1) April 10, 2017

4. Spell check. People. There is a button that will do this for you! This always makes me laugh. It seems very simple/ But, my favorite Friends episode has the best quote ever.  Basics: You=You, Your= possessive; You are = You're. I cannot tell you how silly it is to see people misspell the basics. I don't care if it's on Instagram, Facebook or especially a blog-post. People take high stakes in others ability to spell. Do not sell yourself short by misspelling a word.

5. Do not partake in follow/unfollow. It is a losing game. And it's annoying. There is a blogger who legit follows and unfollows me on Instagram every day. How do I know? No, it's not because I have an app that tells me. It's because every single day I get a new follower notification from her. Really?

6. Find your tribe, love them hard. Blogging BFFs are real. Love them, use them, encourage them, find them, believe in them. All those things you do, they'll do back.

7. Be consistent and authentic. These absolutely go hand-in-hand. Being consistent with crap isn't good and being inconsistent with authentic content will only get you so far. If it is post you would NOT read, do not post it. What's the point. Great, you have a terrible blog post but you made a hard-line rule to post every other day. Skip it. Save it for when you're motivated. I promise it will be worth it. With that being said, I'm still waiting to be sponsored for tampons, so it's all perspective I guess, ha.

8. Instagram is great, but don't neglect other forms of social media. There's a lot to keep up with. Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Bloglovin, did you schedule on Tailwind or Hootsuite? Is your ShopStyle linked to Insta? Sheesh, just writing all that out wore me out. But, if you wanna grow, you gotta grow everywhere.

9. Don't steal other peoples content. Hustle. Work hard. Stay humble. I do a lot of blog-surfing and recently I came across my EXACT post about Denver hot spots. It was from a small publication, sharing their "Local Denver Hot Spots" They even used my picture. Guys, at first I thought, holy crap, I've made it. Then I realized wait, I was never asked, my blog isn't mentioned and neither is my name. I emailed and demanded they remove the post immediately (the lawyer in me got a little feisty). And they apologized and took it down. But, come on people. I get we all share general ideas. Heck, I've seen the 10 blogging commandments 1000000x. But write your own stuff. Do not copy and paste. This applies to Instagram. There's nothing better than posting a picture and 5 minutes later someone posts the exact same. SMH. Apparently in kid lingo that means shake my head. Bottom line, work hard. Blogging takes work. If you're out to still others, you're in the wrong game. Blogging is hard, but so rewarding. Put in the hustle, see the reward.

10. Look to the mentors. I have been friends with Helene from Helene in Between for over 2 and a half years. She is my blogging mentor. I did her blog review over two years ago and she is still my go-to for all blog questions. There are blog-geniusus out there. Use them! Do not be embarassed to ask for help or advice. My recs: Kallie from But First, Coffee. Helene, obvs. Kaelene from Unlocking Kiki, Erica from Coming up Roses. Just to name a few.

What are your blogging tips? Tell me everything. Like I said in #10, I love advice rom others. We're all in this together peeps.

Happy Tuesday friends!

A Week of Meal Plans

April 10, 2017

Honest Truth: I used to make fun of people who meal planned. Now, I'm one of them. Granted, I don't cook all my meals on Sunday, but on Sunday, I know what I'm making during the week. Let's be real, life is so dang busy and knowing what you're gonna cook during it, makes it so much better.

Every Sunday, Adam and I sit down and figure out what we're going to make. It's not the best process in the world because it's so dang hard. I figured it it's hard for me, it might be hard for you too.

One of the things, I try to do when meal planning, is mix up the meats. It's super easy to make everything chicken, but have no fear, this meal plan gives you the perfect variety.

Before we get to the meal plan, I wanted to show you this dress again. I'm obsessed. It was a glorious 75 degree Sunday yesterday and I totally wore this with sneakers. It was perf.

Shop the dress here: Tobi Cold Shoulder Shift Dress
& the details below:

Are you ready for your weekly meal plan? Let's do it.

Flank Steak Salad: Let me preface with the fact that Adam doesn't LOVE salads. That all changed last night ladies and gentleman. Adam finished his salad and then went back for a second portion! This was a huge night. He said it was, and I quote, "super flavorful and the best salad I've had."

This is super easy and I made enough steak that I could have it has left overs for lunch the next day. And, trust me when I say, I'm not a huge fruit on salad person, but this was killer. Enjoy!

Ingredients:
Salad

  • Flank steak - Get the good stuff or else it's chewy. I recommend Whole Foods
  • Handful of arugula
  • Handful of Raspberries
  • 1/3 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup goat cheese
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
Dressing

  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon coconut sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • drop of anchovy paste
  • salt and pepper to taste

How to Make:
  1. Heat oil in a cast-iron skillet over medium high heat. Wait until the oil is very hot, it will be shimmering.
  2. Add the steak to the pan, do not touch it. Cook for 3 minutes, flip, and cook for another 3 minutes.
  3. Transfer the steak to a plate and allow to rest for 5 minutes before cutting into strips.
  4. While the steak rests, combine all salad ingredients in a large bowl.
  5. Shake together all vinaigrette ingredients in a small shaker, then pour over the salad and toss to coat evenly.

Breakfast Scrambler: Ya know those days when you get home from work late, there's nothing in the fridge and yet you're starving? This happened to us a while ago, so what did we do? Scoured the fridge and freezer for anything and everything. The result, a delicious and super filing breakfast for dinner scrambler.

Ingredients
  • Really good sausage
  • 1 sweet potato, diced
  • 1 onion, either diced or cut into circles
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • handful of mushrooms
  • 4 eggs (or if you have a hungry husband, 6)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin
  • pinch of salt and pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

How to Make:

  1. Start here if you used pre-cooked sausage. Add sweet potatoes and cook for about 10 minutes. This will vary on how thick your pieces are.
  2. Add the onions and bell peppers. Cook for about 5 minutes or until tender. (If you are using pre-cooked sausage, add it in now to heat up).
  3. Add the sausage back in. Stir. Add in the mushrooms and the seasoning. Cook until tender.
  4. Now the egg, you can do this multiple ways. I break all my eggs in a bowl, mix them and then pour them into the pot with everything. Some people like them separate. So use a separate saute pan, make your scrambled eggs and then mix.
  5. I hate doing dishes, so I prefer the one-pot method. It does take a little longer for the eggs to cook since there isn't as much pan.
  6. Top with a little sriracha or if not-paleo, cheese!
  7. Enjoy!

Spicy Chicken Soup: Sometimes it's time to call in the big guns and get out the crock pot. Throw some ingredients in, scoop it out 8 hours later and voila! The best part about this one, it makes leftovers, it's healthy and the avocado crema I make with it is the best ever.

Ingredients:
  • 3 chicken breasts
  • 2 red bell peppers, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 jalapeno, diced (leave the seeds if you want the spice)
  • 3 cups chicken broth
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 (big) jar of diced green chilis
  • 1/3 cup chopped cilantro
  • juice of 1 lime (or 2)
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (leave out if less spice)
How to Make:
  1. Put everything in the crock pot.
  2. Low = 8 hours; high = 4 hours.
  3. Shred chicken. Top with goodies, Enjoy!
  4. I topped ours with the avocado crema I made Monday!

Spicy Shrimp + Sweet Potatoes: I know what you're thinking, gross. I agree, it is a semi-weird combo, but please trust me on this. It is insanely good. Adam requests it. That is saying a lot considering he hates sweet potatoes. Something about the sweet of the potato and the spicy of the shrimp. It's delish!

Ingredients:
Shrimp:
  • 1 pound shrimp
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Avocado Crema
  • 1 avocado
  • 2 tablespoons almond milk
  • 1/2 lime, juiced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • red pepper flakes for garnish
Sweet Po's
  • 2 large sweet potatoes
  • salt and pepper
  • olive oil
How to Make:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Wash sweet potatoes. Rub with olive oil, salt and pepper. Poke holes in the top.
  3. Place sweet po's in the oven for 45 minutes or until soft.
  4. While sweet po's are cooking, make the crema. Combine all ingredients (minus the red pepper flakes) in a blender and blend until creamy.
  5. In a bowl, combine shrimp and all the spices.
  6. Heat a cast iron with 1 tablespoon oil and add shrimp. Cook until opaque.
  7. When sweet pos are done, carefully scoop out insides until a thin layer of flesh remains.
  8. Load up with shrimp, top with crema and devour.
Dessert: Paleo Donuts. Just do it.

Saturday? My suggestion, go out and treat yo'self. You worked hard this week. It's time for someone else to do the cooking.

There ya go peeps. Everything I'm making this week. I hope your Monday is going fast!

Thursdays with Tobi Clothing

April 6, 2017

Oh Thursday, I am so glad you are here. I am mentally preparing for Friday already. Denver is going to be ah-mazing this weekend, full of 70+ degree temps and baseball. Yeah, you heard me, the Rockies are in town and I plan on eating at least 2 hot-dogs.

This week has been a whirlwind. A good one, but a long one. Tomorrow in my newsletter, you'll hear all about how I'm embracing the happy and choosing it daily. I am deciding to be happy. My week was crazy but it means I have a job that is busy and a life that is full. That is my spin on happy. Wanna hear more, make sure you sign up for the newsletter, going out tomorrow!

Any ways, how the heck are ya guys? It feels like it's been forever. I'm currently planning a reader survey and would LOVE to hear your questions. Leave them below.

Before we get to my favorite shop and some cute outfits, it's imperative that I announce the winner of the Lush Cosmetics giveaway! Patty H you are the winner! Congrats! Stay tuned for the next giveaway! If you are a newsletter subscriber you get the early chance to enter!

Today I am sharing some of my favorite outfits from one of my favorite shops. Tobi is an online shop born in Silicon Valley, but designed in LA. Summer is quickly approaching and thank god I have Tobi to get me through the hot summer months in some of my favorite outfits.

First, the clothing all fits great. Second, it's affordable. Third and most important, its so cute.

This first romper is perfect for summer. It's called the Jackie Layered Romper.

To give you a size reference, I am 5'8. It's a little short on me, but would be absolutely perfect for summer, the beach and lots of sunshine. It is super comfy, almost cozy. I could wear it all day. The best part, you can wear a real bra. Hallelujah!

Photog Tips 101: Stand against a fence, look sideways, smile.
Romper: Tobi; Shoes: Madewell

My mama is my photog and I am so grateful for her for taking
so many awkward pictures of me. Like this one.
And, I'm sure, Adam is grateful that he didn't have to take these.
Romper: Tobi; Shoes: Madewell

Like I said, this romper is perfect for the beach. And this bag is perfect for this romper.
Romper: Tobi; Shoes: Madewell; Jacket: J.Crew; Bag: Forest Bound

I have always loved a good romper. But the thing is, I'm 5'8. I have long legs and the shortest torso ever. Most of the time, rompers are so short on me, I look like I'm wearing a nightgown, or at least something that should be kept in the bedroom.

That is not the case with these. Yes, they are short(er) but the way they lay on my body, makes it feel longer. This next romper I love. Granted I could use a major tan, but I loved the color. It's going to be a perfect summer outfit. This romper is called the Erna Lace Romper. I love the lace and I love the high neckline, especially with how short it is.

If you haven't noticed, Henry James III *learn more about him here, is my most favorite accessory. His little frown makes every picture cute. Plus his coloring totally matches. I'm not sure he loves pictures as much as I do though.

Look at that little stud muffin. He should have been a dog model.
Hey Purina, are you listening?
Romper: Tobi; Shoes: Seven

"Hey mom, take a picture of me from the boobs down."
Pretty awkward phrase, but she totally nailed it.
Romper: Tobi; Shoes: Seven; Bag: Louis Vuitton

Henry is 100% over this photo shoot.
Romper: Tobi; Shoes: Seven; Bag: Louis Vuitton

I'm always pretty late to the fashion trend party. But, I am loving this "cold shoulder" trend. Granted this is my first purchase of the cold shoulder trend, but I have a feeling it wont be my last.

Now, I gotta get working on that tan. This dress is the Juna Cold Shoulder Shift Dress. This one was a perfect length on me. It didn't feel short at all. It was flowy and oh so comfortable. I already know where I'm wearing it next, stay tuned!

You guys gotta get to Whole Foods - they have the prettiest flowers right now.
Dress: Tobi; Shoes: Seven

I'm pretty sure Louis Vuitton is the prettiest accessory.
Dress: Tobi; Shoes: Seven; Clutch: Louis Vuitton

Attention: I bought this PINK fur (faux) jacket on Amazon from China. I LOVE it.
I think this will be a flair piece of mine for a long time.
Dress: Tobi; Jacket: Permans; Bag; Louis Vuitton

This jacket is also from Amazon and from China. Just wait until you see the last picture.
I paired this jacket with the black cold shoulder dress.
Dress: Tobi; Jacket: Tengfu

Yep, that's Popeye. I'm in love. Where's Olive?
Dress: Tobi; Jacket: Tengfu

Happy Thursday Friends! We are so close to the weekend. Don't forget to shop Tobi, you won't regret it. And, if you want some encouragement for the week, make sure to sign up for the Everyday Grace newsletter, a brand new one comes out tomorrow!

My Spring & Summer Bucket List

April 5, 2017

Happy Wednesday friends! This week is flying for me. I'm pretty sure it's because my parents were here this weekend and were here until Monday, so it kinda feels like the weekend extended to Monday. But now, it's Wednesday and we are officially half way through the week.

It is stunning in Denver today. Yesterday it was snowing, today it's sunny, pretty dang cold but sunny.  If you've never seen a sunny city the day after it snows, you are missing out. It glistens in the prettiest way. Sometimes it makes driving in the sunshine impossible, but dang.

If you're not familiar with Denver, the weather catch phrase is "If you don't like the weather in Colorado, wait 5 minutes." That statement is ringing very true this April and we're only 5 days in.

Can we talk about New Balance by J.Crew? I've been obsessed with J. Crew since forever and then you throw amazing workout clothes in there, sold. The best part about these leggings, they are so stretchy, so comfy and the cutest. Ps. Don't miss, today is your LAST day to enter the Lush Cosmetics giveaway! Free stuff people.

Leggings: New Balance by J.Crew; Sweatshirt: J. Crew; Sneakers: Nike; Sunglasses: Ray Ban

The best part about the mix of snow and sun is now everything is blooming; my tulips are coming up and my allergies are driving me nuts. But, spring is coming and I'm so excited. The spring brings so much new good stuff. It feels like someone hit a big restart button. The dreary winter is over and it's time to celebrate and good. Let's talk about it.

These are some of my favorite spring things and what I'm looking forward to most:
  1. Spring cleaning! This might sound crazy, but I am ready to cleanse my house. That means going through closets, basements, storage rooms and the garage. If you know of any good donation places besides Goodwill, let me know!
  2. My brother-in-law is getting married this spring, in two weeks actually! My best friends Callie and Kate are getting married this summer! Adam's best friend is getting married in August! It is a spring/summer of love people.
  3. Those two best friends of mine are also having their Bachelorette parties! That means on weekend in Austin, one in Sonoma -  I see you bachelorettes.
  4. I turn T H I R T Y in 64 days! More on all the big plans for 30.
  5. Rockies games. The Rockies are home this weekend and I'm so excited for beer, hot dogs and sunshine.
  6. Beauty and the Beast. This was my favorite Disney movie ever when I was a kid. Adam is out of town in a few weekends and I plan on grabbing a bottle of wine and seeing it alllll by myself in one of those theaters with the comfy chairs, free popcorn and wine. Have you guys seen it? What did you think? Also, do you think I'm allowed to sing along?
  7. Running. I've always wanted to become a runner but let's be real, I suck at it. Better weather means another time to try running. Tips? Send them please?
  8. Happy hours with friends on the patio. Is there anything better than a cold cocktail in the sunshine.
  9. Henry turns 8, Lola turns 1, Adam turns 31 and I turn 30. Big year all around.
  10. Blog photo shoots. I had my first one a few weeks ago and I think the pictures are only gonna get better. At least I hope they are only going to get better.
  11. Bachelor in Paradise. I don't care what you say, I'm pumped. And Raven is going to Paradise and I'm so excited to see her again.
  12. Our 2 year wedding anniversary! I cannot wait to share our weekend getaway!
  13. Estes Park. The best thing about Colorado is there are so many places to visit at all times. I've never been to Estes and this summer Adams fam is coming out to Estes for a getaway. I cannot wait to hike Rocky Mountain National Park and spend some time in a new place.
Also, this is the LAST day for this giveaway! Click this link -->

I had a great photog who made me do poses like this and laugh.

My Favorite Friday Things.

March 31, 2017

It's finally Friday, hooray! This week has been one for the record books. Long days, long nights and I was a day ahead all week. Seriously, is there anything worse than waking up on Thursday thinking it's Friday? Nope. There isn't, I checked.

My parents arrived last night and I am so excited they are here and they get to be here for a snowy weekend in Denver. My mom always says that she wouldn't mind a little cold. Welp, I think Denver and mother nature heard her loud and clear. We are in for a chilly semi-snowy weekend.

There is nothing better than having my parents in town. I just love it. Sometimes I tell Adam that I don't feel like an adult and we're living in this house playing make believe house. It gives me comfort to have adults in the house, my parents specifically.

Jeans: Madewell; Top: Madewell; Shoes: Jack Purcell; Bag: YSL

This outfit has quickly become on of my go-tos. This shirt is literally my favorite shirt. I wear it probably a little too often. And who knew mom-jeans would be my favorite pair of jeans! I call them mom jeans because they are very high-waisted and have a little longer of a crotch than most skinny jeans.

Yesterday, while in a daze at work, I was day dreaming about all the good things, all the things that make me happy. I posted a quote on the blog a while ago and I think about it often -->
Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.
Jeans: Madewell; Top: Madewell; Shoes: Jack Purcell; Bag: YSL

Every morning when we get up, we get to make the choice to be happy or not. Yes, life sometimes sucks. It's hard. There's a lot of sadness and darkness. But there is also so much light. There is so much good in this world and I think too often it's easier to dwell on the bad. Today, I'm choosing the happy. There was a lot of good stuff in the blog world and beyond this week, let's talk about it.
  • Thomas Rhett came out with a new song today, "Craving you." It's so good. You can listen to it below.
  • Juli at Paleo OMG is killing the food game with her Seared Ahi Tuna Sushi Bowls. I am dying to make this soon.
  • Ashley at Afternoon Espresso is styling her baby bump in the cutest way with this target slip dress. I know where I'm headed after work! I think the slip dress is going to be the cutest summer trend.
  • Natalie and I went to college together at Pepperdine and is now absolutely killing the blog game, jewelry making game and mama game. She makes the cutest jewelry ever and I'm dying over this Chrissy necklace. It's almost my name which means I should probably buy it, right?
  • I am currently obsessed with bell sleeves and white pants. It all feels so summery to me. Caitlin at Southern Curls and Pearls has styled my dream outfit.
  • Taylor at Daily Tay just became an aunt again, so I can totally relate to her on this post: How to be the fun aunt. That is my daily objective. How do I make my nieces and nephews love me the most. It's a constant struggle. This post is hilar.
  • I am so glad sneakers are becoming popular again. Do we call them sneakers or tennis shoes? I may never get it right, but Gucci sure did with these embroidered rose sneakers. Now, how do I convince Adam that $695 is justifiable if they're Gucci and I promise to wear them all the time.
This is my "I'm casually sitting on the ground in an alley just
because I loved this brick wall" face.
Jeans: Madewell; Top: Madewell; Shoes: Jack Purcell; Bag: YSL

"Wanna stand in the middle of the road with the wind viciously blowing?"
Sure! I love that my photog friend is super adventurous.
Jeans: Madewell; Top: Madewell; Shoes: Jack Purcell; Bag: YSL

We got so lucky on this day because it was March but so sunny, so warm and I was actually sweating in this picture. Glorious.
Jeans: Madewell; Top: Madewell; Shoes: Jack Purcell; Bag: YSL

Happy Friday dear friends. I hope you have such a wonderful weekend. Here's to choosing happy.

Review: Columbia SkinCare

March 30, 2017

Happy Thursday friends! Are you sensing a blog trend going on? Yes, it's me, desperately trying to find the perfect skin care, Yesterday I was talking face masks. Today. I am talking every day skin care.

I am so pumped it's Thursday. My parents are coming in town this weekend, we're supposed to get a snow storm on Saturday and all is right in the world. I plan on showing them everything from my Denver Hot-spot list and probably even a little more. What are your weekend plans?

Okay, let's get back on topic, Columbia SkinCare. I am SO excited to share this product with you today. Here's where the disclaimer comes in, so you know, I received this product free, but all opinions are my own, swear.

I received this product a little over a month ago. I think in all fairness and in order to write a proper review, I had to have at least a month to try it. I was given a cream and a serum. I've been using them with my normal cleanser.

Wanna know the coolest thing about this product? It's a Probiotic Concentrate and Complex. Meaning, just like the probiotics or good bacteria that we ingest to stay healthy, it's now being used on the skin. This product does what we all really want in a skin care, it renews and rejuvenates the skin. Healthy glowing skin is so possible and in large part to this product. And let's get real, healthy skin is beautiful skin. Let's be clear though, this product is not to cover things up. It's designed to actually renew your skin and nourish it, so that it only continues to get better!

Even Henry loves it.

Like I mentioned, I've been using this product for a little over a month and I can totally see the brightness renewed in my face. My sun spots (thanks arizona) are lightening and overall, I have clearer skin. My quest to get rid of acne is going good.

One little caveat form the owners:
Our probiotics  promote the natural cleansing of impurities in the cellular system, including residual impurities from other medications and treatments including retinoids.
There can sometimes be a slight interaction, usually a tiny blemish or pimple developing on a person who has been using too much retinol or retinal products. This is actually the effort of our probiotics to rid the cells of the impurities in the retinal products which often result in the drying of the skin. There is so much overuse and abuse of products containing retinal and many people aren’t even aware of the cumulative side effects from all retinol products and their derivatives.  This is one of the true benefits of our technology. It is now possible to obtain all the benefits of retinoids without any of the harmful and otherwise unwanted side effects.
Don't overuse this. Just like most products, it can be drying. It is important to use the product as specified. And with any new product, its a good idea to do small testing areas before full use. Skin is so different and I'd hate for you to go overboard.

But, to be honest, I dove head first into this product and haven't been the slightest bit disappointed. I'm literally obsessed with it.

I know what you're thinking, where can I sign up?! Well, luckily for you I have a promo code! If you purchase either probiotic product, you will receive a FREE moisturizing cream (literally a $38 offer!) just use promo code: ProbioticGift at checkout!

My favorite face masks

March 29, 2017

Winter is absolutely brutal for my skin. The freezing cold, super dry air makes for dry blech skin. Throw in a few days of 70+ degree temps and forget about it. My face is a mess.

About a month ago, I started noticing more breakouts. Once I got over my teenage years, I was blessed with pretty clear skin. Sure I'd have the occasional breakout, but nothing I couldn't handle.

I could not figure out this recent breakout fest my face was participating in. Was it my diet? I cut out all sugar. That helped, but I was still noticing little blemishes. I wasn't on my period, wasn't pregnant, so excess hormones couldn't be the issue. Was my makeup causing it? I stopped using one product and I bought new face make up, maybe mine was old? Nope, nothing, still breaking out.

My skin care routine has always been super basic. Great cleaner, toner and night and morning moisturizer. It's always worked for me. I wash my face in the morning and night and never really put much effort in to my skin because for the most part it cooperated with me. I've never been super dedicated to one product or another but am always willing to try new stuff. I knew after this last rush of breakouts I had to try something new.

I went to the mall to find a solution and stumbled upon  Lush. Now, we all know what Lush is, the amazing smelling place in the mall. Its filled with colorful bath bombs, great smelling lotions and the best lip tints ever. I went in and began searching for the best mask.

A man approached me offering to help and I couldn't notice how nice his skin was. I told him my small back story about mini-blemishes and how I just wanted something to clean my pores. Before saying a word, he directed me to this mask. He suggested starting once a day for 4-5 days and then every other and then once a week.

Sold. I ran home, washed my face and on the mask went. Adam even joined me! It is the cleanest, tingling feeling mask ever. Day 4 and I could totally see a difference. My skin is brighter, my pores are tighter and cleaner and my skin looks so rejuvenated.

Now, if you're one of the lucky ones with tiny pores, I have a few other masks I LOVE and for different reasons.

Let me be clear, I'm not a dermatologist, I use what I like and how it works for my skin. Always be careful when trying new products as you might have a reaction you didn't quite expect. I always talk to people when buying skin products about my own skin and any concerns I have.

What to use: See below- I listed by 4 favs!
How to use: Apply that mask!
Why: Clear skin, bright skin, smaller pores and happier faces!

Let's get to it. My 4 favorite skin masks:

Lush: Mask of Magnaminty: This tingly, minty face and body mask was formulated to be intensely cleansing but never harsh or abrasive. Kaolin clay and peppermint oil rid your pores of debris, giving you a delightfully tingly clean sensation. We add loads of ground aduki beans to exfoliate flaky or dry skin, vanilla absolute to calm redness and honey to soothe and moisturize.

Be prepared to look a little goofy with it on, but glorious when you wash it off. I use a gentle moisturizer after I use this mask and it is the most refreshing feeling ever.

Lola may or may not have tried to lick my face while this was on.
See, everyone thinks it smells good!
Sk-II Facial Treatment Mask: A luxurious facial mask with an indulgent concentration of Pitera in a single application. Your skin is immediately and exceptionally immersed in moisturization, resulting in a visibly radiant and crystal clear complexion.

If you are looking to replenish moisture to your skin, this mask is for you. You will feel instantly rejuvenated. This mask is perfect for those cold harsh winters. It's Adams favorite - yes men can wear face masks!

Dr. Jart+: All that Lift and Firm: A specially-designed mask that achieves the appearance of skin-lifting and elasticity improvement.

Wanna tighten your skin? Look jowls? Chin? Neck? This mask is for you. It is designed to increase elasticity in your skin. I'm so down for this because I'm scared of needles and am not quite ready for Botox or a lift. They don't sell the lift and firm, now its called contour but it's the same stuff!

Andalou Naturals: Fruit Enzyme Mask: Fruit stem cells, resveratrol CoQ10, and bioactive 8 berry complex help support dermal vitality as fruit juice enzymes gently dissolve and exfoliate dull, dry surface cells to reveal skin’s natural glow and a rejuvenated complexion.

I love this mask. No tingling, no burning. It's gentle and refreshing. It's purpose is for those of us with very dry skin. I wanted something that instantly made my face feel fresh and moisturized. This is that mask. And, I bought it at Whole Foods, score!

Happy Wednesday friends! What are your favorite skin care products?

Let's finish out this week strong with a giveaway!

8 Places to See and Eat in Denver

March 28, 2017

My parents are coming to Denver this weekend and I am so thrilled to show them around town. A little back story, my parents lived in Denver in the late 80's - early 90's, so needless to say, Denver has changed a ton.

When they lived here, Union Station was just a train station and downtown was a place you avoided like the plague. When I was born in Colorado, I was born in Littleton, now it's Centennial. Where I live now was fields of nothing-ness. Marijuana was not legal and the airport was actually close to Denver. Now, Denver is one of the largest growing cities in the country, growing quicker than San Fran and NYC. It's housing market competes with the likes of Chicago and NYC and the highways are almost worse than LA...almost.

But, it's my current hometown and I absolutely love being here. The last time my parents were in town, my dad drove a U-haul full of my childhood goods up from AZ to CO and we spent the weekend organizing. Sunday we went to a Broncos game and before we knew it, my plan to show then around Denver had failed and we had run out of time.

This weekend will change all of that. I have so much to show them!

If you have never been to Denver, this is your Top 8 (most favorite) Places to See, Eat and Do in Denver. If you are new around here, you will learn that I love to eat and I base a lot of my activities around where the next meal is coming from. Let's go.

Union Station, one of my favorite places.
Overalls: Madewell; Shirt: Madewell; Bag: Louis Vuitton; Sunglasses: Rayban
  1. Union Station: Union Station is a dream. First it is a vision. They re-did the entire thing about 5 years ago and instead of just a bus and train station it is now a bar and even more. It's full of restaurants, bars, shops, book stores and flower booths. You can drink wine throughout the entire place. If you are in town, make a reservation at Mercantile and grab a glass of wine at Terminal Bar before you get seated. Cooper Lounge is so fabulous and fancy and upstairs. So you can actually look down over the entire station while you drink. Ir's amazing. Head to back and you can see real trains, my nephews would be amazed.
  2. Red Rocks: Talk about a vision. Red Rocks boasts gorgeous views from literally every angle. Red Rocks is a park first and an amphitheater second. It has miles of trails around and throughout the entire park. The views are so incredible. Then you have this gorgeous amphitheater situated right in the middle of the park. Beginning late spring through early fall they have tons and tons of concerts, yoga on the rocks and movie nights on the weekends. If you're a Denver newbie or a long time local, Red Rocks is a must for everyone. Warning, to get to the top of the amphitheater requires a little hike with tons of stairs, wear comfy shoes.
  3. Linger: Let's get a little more specific. Linger is my favorite brunch spot in Denver. If you love bottomless mimosas, ramen bowls or views of downtown, then Linger will become your favorite spot too. I, for one, am a sucker for bottomless anything so sign me up. Plus there's valet. Done.
  4. The Breweries: Where to begin. Denver is the number one brewery location in the country. I don't know if that's actually true, but man alive, there are more breweries than I can even count. We've lived here for almost 3 years and have visited over 40 breweries and we haven't even breached the surface. My favorite just to name a view: Epic (Sour IPA), Breck Brewery *in Breckenridge, Lone Tree Brewery (you can bring your dogs), Resolute (the best food trucks in town) and Denver Beer Co (Princess Yum Yum!).
  5. Coffee: This is kind of a weird one, but I am a sucker for cute coffee shops that let me take Instagram pictures. I'm being super honest here people, don't judge. Black Eye Coffee is my most favorite. It was voted the most instagrammed coffee shop in Denver. Monk and Mongoose in Lone Tree is also the cutest. Pigtrain Coffee Company in Union Station is in the same spot as the ice cream shop, so make you  get an affrogato. That's espresso over ice cream. You will not regret it.
  6. The mountains: I cannot forget one of the biggest reasons Colorado is so amazing. Breckenridge is my favorite mountain town for skiing and hamburgers. Vail for shopping and you can bring your animals (Shout out Four Seasons!), Aspen is a fantasy town where I'm sure every mountain movie should be made in. Keystone is for torn ACLs, jkjk. There is a bar, the Snake River Saloon that has $.50 wings and they are the best things I've ever eaten.
  7. Hiking: This goes hand in hand with the mountains, but Denver itself has some of the most amazing hiking and trails. The Cherry Creek trail can take you from downtown Denver to miles south of Denver on a trail that spreads over 40 miles long. Now if only my legs would carry me long enough to bike that. Denver is also attempting an initiative that will make every one in Denver walking distance to a trail, allowing people to spend more time outside. How cool is that. Props to you Denver.
  8. Sports: Two words: Denver Broncos. Sure there are other professional sports teams, but when you have the Broncos, do you need more? My husband would disagree since he's a hockey and baseball fan, so shout-out to you Avalanche (Hockey) and Rockies (baseball). The honorable mention goes out to the Denver Nuggets, who I think are the worst basketball team. But the Avalanche are the worst hockey team too, so go Broncos. Peyton Manning, we miss you.
Like I said, the view from Red Rocks is pretty amazing
Linger used to be Olinger Mortuary, now it's the best brunch spot.
Black Eye, Monk & Mongoose, Pigtrain. You cannot go wrong with any of them
My fabulous parents, hubs and the Bronocs!
