One thing that has kept me a little more sane in quarantine is keeping with our routines. It's super easy to stay in jammies, never get out of bed, and just be lazy all day. Trying to balance work, Quinnie and my familys' sanity has required a lot more structure than I was initially prepared for.
It's taken us 8 1/2 weeks to find some version of a routine, but I think we're starting to figure it out a little bit. I've been working to create a routine in the morning that helps us set our day up a little better. My goal is that by creating to and sticking with a routine, it will make for a less stressful day.
Yesterday on This Girl Life, Whitney and I both broke down our morning routines and what helps us both set our days out on the right foot. Make sure to listen to our episode here! Whitney and I both shared our routines, and they are both different! You can read Whitney's post here on her blog, Positively Posie!
The best part about morning routines, is we each get to set our own for what we are looking for. For me, it's adding a little peace to my day. For some, it might be helping to accomplish a goal, reach a dream, plan for the future. Figure out you why, and I promise your routine will click. It will also make it easier to stick too.
Here's a little insight to what our mornings look like. Keep in mind, I'm a human, so my best intentions often go awry, but I think it's making a point to try to keep to this as much as I can.
1. 15 minutes of quiet. Listen, I am not one of those people that can wake up at 5:30am to sit and read with my coffee in the silence of my house. I require my sleep more than my quiet time.
But I have made it a point to try and sit for 15 minutes, because at this point in life, that is what I can manage. I'm currently working through She Reads Truth, The Romans study guide. What I love about this devotional is that each day they lay out 3 verses with room for notes. It allows me to sit, spend time in God's word, write out my prayer requests, write out my thoughts for the day, etc. Starting my day in God's word and with intentional prayer has been a game changer for me.
2. Do one thing for you. So often the morning starts and holy crap, I'm racing like a crazy person until I go to bed a night. Doing one thing for me in the AM, can be as simple enjoying my coffee, taking a quick shower, doing 15 minute yoga. As moms and wives, we are always doing something for someone else. We are constantly filling up other people's cups. And this one is about a small thing for YOU. And keep in mind, I'm not talking HUGE things, sometimes it can be as easy as a little extra creamer in your coffee.
3. Make Your Bed. I thank my mom for this part of my routine. I have been making my bed for as long as I can remember. For me, making my bed starts my day. It cleans up my room, makes things tidy, and is the official start to my day!
Naval Adm. William McRaven, ninth commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, said the following about making your bed in his commencement address at the University of Texas at Austin:
So, I stretch. I sit on my floor, while Quinnie sits with me and I stretch and holy moly guys, it helps so so much. I usually take about 10 minutes and it has helped tremendously with my pregnant aches and pains. Plus, as Whitney told me, there is some science behind moving your first thing in the morning and getting that blood flow to your muscles. Perk!

Naval Adm. William McRaven, ninth commander of U.S. Special Operations Command, said the following about making your bed in his commencement address at the University of Texas at Austin:
If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.
By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter.
If you can’t do the little things right, you will never do the big things right.
And, if by chance you have a miserable day, you will come home to a bed that is made—that you made—and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be better.4. Stretch. This has become part of my morning just since I got pregnant, so it's new! But it's incredible. My body is freaking sore these days and even a "good night" sleep has me waking up feeling like a 140 year old woman.
If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.
So, I stretch. I sit on my floor, while Quinnie sits with me and I stretch and holy moly guys, it helps so so much. I usually take about 10 minutes and it has helped tremendously with my pregnant aches and pains. A lot of people ask me why I started a podcast. How the heck would I have time to add one more thing to my life. Trust me, I got everything. I got the eye roll, the silence, the encouragement, the support, the suggestions & everything else.
About 6 months ago, right about the time Quinn was born, I was at a point in my life where I knew I wanted to do something. I wanted an outlet to talk about this new season of life I was in. I wanted something that made me jump out of bed in the morning excited. I wanted a challenge, something to embrace because I hoped to gain something from it.
Yes, I love my family, my work and my blog, and honestly, this isn't about any of those. I was looking for something else, something to challenge me, something different. I want Quinn to grow up one day and see that her mama did something to better herself. I want Quinn to see that not only did I work really hard, but I had fun doing it. I want her to be proud of me and I really hope she is.
One day, my best friends and I were in a group text chatting about things when a podcast came up. We were joking because I had someone comment on my insta-stories saying I had a voice for radio. Ha, I was laughing because it was on insta-stories and isn't the joke about radio that you don't have to be pretty? It was funny, but it also got me thinking! Maybe I should start a podcast, maybe this could be my new outlet.
Whitney and I started talking about it and we both realized we wanted to do this and so ya know what? We did. 6 months of planning and we are here. We did it! We started a podcast. I'm calling it my passion project, because that's exactly what it is. It's something that lights a little fire in me. I love chatting with our guests, planning content, and finding great guests! The whole process is so much work, but it is so rewarding.
This Girl Life Podcast is hosted by me (obvs) and my best friend Whitney Kleiner. We're best friends who understand the power of great friendships, good conversations and the realness of creating your best life.

Happy Thursday friends! We've officially made it over the hump. Can you believe it? I know it sounds like I live for the weekends, but it's true, I kinda do. This week I've been trying to get myself to actually enjoy the week, even if it is full of work, busy schedules, errands and all that adulting stuff we often complain about.
One of my 2017 goals (and life goal in general) is to live a life full of intention. Even if I don't like my current season of life or I'm struggling with it, I'm trying to find it's purpose. That includes Tuesdays. Don't get me started, but Tuesdays are the worst.
This week has been a week of friends supporting friends, women supporting women and I'm digging it. In the last few days, I've felt super encouraged by the friendships I have. I have the most incredible girlfriends and they are doing amazing things. I've always considered myself a girls-girls. I love my girlfriends more than most humans.
From nurses to loan officers to attorneys to teachers to entrepreneurs to moms raising bad-ass little ones. My friends are kicking butt.
Today I'm telling you about one of those spectacular friends of mine.
My bff Whitney started a blog, Positively Posie a little over 2 months ago. If blogging (being a mom to a 16-month old and a wife) isn't a tough enough gig, she decided to start her own company, Posie + Co (get the blog heading now?). It's a graphic tee shirt company with all the t-shirts you need for everyday.
Whitney and some of our friends came up with these darling designs and Whitney is doing it all by herself. She's marketing it and handling all the business side. She's a boss.
ITS GIVEAWAY TIME! Today and for the next week we will be hosting a giveaway! This is your chance to win any tee you want! We can all thank Whitney for her generosity in giving away not only the shirt of your choice, but if you do all the entries, you could win a Posie + Co tote.
Thanks Whitney, not only for being a bad-ass at all you do, but for your kindness.
REMEMBER if you do all the entries, you will be entered for a special giveaway to win a Posie + Co TOTE. This tote is brand new and isn't even on the website yet. You guys are getting special access to all the good stuff Posie + Co has to offer.
Guys, this is huge. Tell your friends, tell your spouse, you do not want to miss your chance to win. Plus, who doesn't love free stuff.
If you love social media, make sure to give us a shout out with the hashtag #EverydayPosie
Don't forget to use the hashtag #EverydayPosie -- Good luck everyone!

Happy Friday Friends! We made it! Is it just me, or is the week post a vacation the hardest ever? Wednesday seemed like Monday, I thought Tuesday was Thursday and all week I was super thrown off. But, it's Friday, its the weekend and I plan on enjoying every little moment. Plus, Denver thinks it's funny to snow today and tomorrow. So I'll be cozied up by the fire this week should you come looking. If you do come, bring wine.
Anyways, it's Friday and I have such a treat in store for you. It is the week of guest posts people but this guest post is my favorite. My best friend, Whitney is a bad-ass mama, wife, nurse and friend. Whitney and I have been friends for over 15+ years. She was the maid of honor in my wedding and I was in hers. We were roommates in college for a year, traveled the world together and we've drank a lot of wine and coffee together.
UPDATE: Whitney lives in San Diego with her husband, Kale and her 3 1/2 year old baby girl, Blakely. Whitney blogs at Positively Posie and you can find it and all the good stuff here. She blogs about her health and wellness, beauty regimens, fitness routines, outfits and all her mom finds.
Today, she is sharing her favorite things. So, without further ado, I introduce you to my best friend Whitney and all her favorite things.
Today I wanted to share my 5 Must Haves as a New Mom. The inspiration behind Positively Posie is an outlet for my creativity where I hope to inspire many to find a new style, a new beauty trend all while sharing some new mama wisdom. As a mom of a busy one year old (Miss B), I’ve found some things that I’m absolutely IN LOVE with and I’m all about sharing the mama seal of approval! Hopefully some of these items can make your life a little easier (or will make for a great shower gift)!

2. Baby Shusher: I never realized how much work “sssshhhing” is until I had Miss B, spoiler alert…..it’s exhausting! That’s when I was introduced to the Baby Shusher. It has become my go-to baby shower gifts that I buy for my friends--even if they haven’t registered for it. It literally ssshes for you and it’s small enough to toss in your purse for when you are out and about or place it by the car seat to help make getting around town easier. It is truly a must have item for all new moms.
I decided to try placenta encapsulation to help my hormones levels gradually regulate instead of quickly dropping post baby. I believe that it did allow my body's hormones to adjust at a better rate and I felt very balanced post-baby. I can truly say I never experienced any depression or big mood swings while taking my placenta pills. I highly encourage you to do some research on placenta encapsulation it's worth it!!
5. The 3 F's: These were a must have for me after having Miss B—Family, Friends and FaceTime. As a first time mom and a perfectionist, I knew that it was going to be really hard for me to ask for help and take "me" time. I encourage all new moms to do what I did and ask your family and friends to help keep you accountable when it comes to taking time for yourself. It might just be a phone call with your best friend or a longer shower than normal. Take a few minute to be alone and breath.

Happy Friday Friends! I hope you have the best weekend, let's make it good.
Do you have ever have those nights when you're cooking up a delicious meal and right as you take a bite you realize you forgot to photograph the entire experience? I mean, if you didn't photograph your food, did you even eat it?
Well, that is exactly what happened here. It was a brisk Sunday afternoon, football was on and the fire was blazing. I was cooking up some delicious sloppy joes and maybe it was the mix of fall in the air or the red wine in my glass but I completely spaced photos.
Looks like you lovelies are just going to have to take my word on how delicious these were. You could make these like regular sloppy joes, throw them on a fresh roll, or throw them in a baked sweet potato, or do what we did and just eat like caveman with a bunch of meat on a plate. Any way you do it, I promise these are delish!
Ingredients:
Today is not just sloppy joe Tuesday, but it happens to be my best friends birthday! Whitney and I have known each other since 7th grade! How is that possible that two little 12-year olds are still friends and celebrating 29th birthdays together! It is such a cool thing. I thought 28 would be Whitney's best year, marrying her best friend and starting their life together, but I'm pretty sure 29 is going to be just as good as she brings a new little babe into the world!

Happy Birthday Whitney! I hope today you feel so loved and celebrated because you deserve it! Eat yogurt, open presents and celebrate today with your husband! Thanks for being such a wonderful friend and a constant support in my life. You are such a blessing. I wish I was there celebrating with you, but I hope you know I'm thinking about you all day! I love you!
This past weekend was such a good one. I know what you're thinking, she says that about all her weekend recaps, but this one was especially great.
The weekend began late Thursday night as I flew in to Scottsdale. Jump to early Friday morning and my best friends wedding weekend began. We started with a beautiful bridesmaid lunch where we prayed for Whitney, laughed, cried and prepared for her big day. We had a great rehearsal that night, followed by some really delicious cocktails at The Living Room. Before we knew it, it was Saturday. Whitney was the most stunning bride. We started the morning early with champagne, makeup appointments, hair styling and lots of pictures. The day went off without a hitch and even the Scottsdale weather cooperated and gave us a gorgeous 75 degree day, it was perfect. At 5pm, Whitney began her walk down the aisle, toward her groom, her forever. The ceremony was amazingly tailored to the gorgeous couple and with a kiss (and a fist pump!) they were Mr. and Mrs! It was truly an incredible day. We danced into the night and enjoyed that special moment where of all your friends are in one place. Oh, what a day! Weddings are seriously the coolest thing. I love getting to be a part of someones happily ever forever. Being there to see them say I do, especially when I've watched their relationship blossom from day one is so incredible. I feel so honored that I was able to stand next to Whitney then and now as they venture into married life.
You probably thought the weekend ended there... but you are wrong. Sunday was my 10-year high school reunion! 10 years. Yikes. A group of my girlfriends (and their husbands/boyfriends) pre-gamed at my house before we made the trek to the restaurant. I cannot lie, I wasn't totally looking forward to this. I mean, I see 90% of everyone on facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn, what did I really need to do at a reunion? But, once I got there and saw, hugged and talked with everyone I knew, I was so glad I went. I have gone to SCA since I was in kindergarten and then graduated from SCA, so I've know a lot of these people for over 20 years and I loved catching up with everyone! We have lawyers, professional ice skaters, entrepreneurs, chefs, musicians etc in our class! It was so cool to see all these people I once knew SO well living their grown up life. After our reunion, a small group of us went to In-and-Out Burger, a place we spent a lot of time at in high school. We laughed, ate, reminisced and cried as we said goodbye. It was the best weekend. I wish we could do it all over but this time, slow every little moment down. Here's to the weekend, good friends and great love.
1. Mr. and Mrs. 2. Us four at Whitney's rehearsal dinner. 3. Aren't they stunning??
4. My loves, Coti and Sarah. 5. Coti, my heart & my best.
6. My first wedding as a Mrs with my Mr! 7. The fist pump!

I'm so lucky to be so close to so many high school friends. My heart is full.
The gang.
Tomorrow I'm doing a really fun weekend recap.
(1) My best friend got MARRIED!!
(2) I went to my 10-year high school reunion.
How is that even possible?? I still feel like nice little 18 year old girl getting ready for the big bad world. Now, here I am 27, married and it just doesn't seem possible! In preparation for my 10-year reunion post, here are the top 10 songs from 2005. Doesn't it seem like music "back then" was so much better than it is now?
I mean, 1, 2 step? I'm pretty sure that was my prom theme song.
Don't cha... basically sung by every girl around the country on repeat.
Since you Been Gone. Yes.
I love 'oldies' but these top 10 are pretty damn good. I also think this was back when Kayne was still a good person and not the mic-stealing human he is today. Does anyone else miss 50 cent like I do? Thank goodness the Pussycat Dolls broke up though, even though their songs were catchy, I think we can all agree we're better off without :)
Anyways, enough of my reminiscing... here's the list... and here's my favorite from that list.
1 | Mariah Carey | We Belong Together |
2 | Gwen Stefani | Hollaback Girl |
3 | Mario | Let Me Love You |
4 | Kelly Clarkson | Since U Been Gone |
5 | Ciara feat. Missy Elliott | 1, 2 Step |
6 | Kanye West feat. Jamie Foxx | Gold Digger |
7 | Green Day | Boulevard Of Broken Dreams |
8 | 50 Cent feat. Olivia | Candy Shop |
9 | Pussycat Dolls feat. Busta Rhymes | Don't Cha |
10 | Kelly Clarkson | Behind These Hazel Eyes |
Today my best friend marries her best friend. I know, I'm on a sappy love high, I got married two weeks ago and now here I am, watching my best friend and maid of honor marry her love. Is there anything better than watching two people in love? Is there anything better than being able to see the butterflies and a physical reaction to love? If there is, I haven't found it, instead I've found that love is the greatest display of emotion known. Love makes you cry, makes you laugh, makes you nervous, makes you happy, makes you shake, makes you feel love. Love is the greatest emotion.
It's best said in 1 Corinthians 13:12-14, "For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall fully know, even as I am fully know. And now these three things remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
This post is dedicated to my best. This post is dedicated to her love, the man who will spoil her, love her, honor her and dedicate the next 80+ years to her. Denton, you are marrying the best girl. Whitney, you're marrying your love, your fairytale, your soulmate...the one your heart loves. This is YOUR day. Enjoy it, soak it up. I feel so honored to be standing next to you today. I love you!Everyone reading this... I hope your toast your coffee, mimosa, beer, wine, whatever you're drinking, cheers to love, cheers to Mr. and Mrs., cheers to forever.
