"Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it."
I love this quote. I think it is powerful in the sense that it gives us the ability to control (some) part of our path, our lives and our outlooks. I've been pretty sick (nothing serious) this past weekend and it's easy, when you feel like crap, to act like crap. It's easy to look at happy, healthy, smiley people and be angry. It's easy to play the "why me" game. But tomorrow, though it's going to be rough, I'm going to wake up and chose to be happy. Because, at the end of the day, I've got friends and family by my side, I live in a great city, go to a wonderful school, have the best dog and don't have much to complain about. So, here's to everyone choosing to be happy despite circumstances that might lead us elsewhere. We have the power, we just have to chose to use it.
