Did you know August 1 to 7 every year marks World Breastfeeding Week? It's celebrated every year to encourage and support breastfeeding in an effort to improve the health of babies around the world. The theme of this year’s World Breastfeeding Week is “Breastfeeding: Foundation for Life” — a recognition of the importance of breastfeeding to a baby’s future. We've all heard the stats about breastfeeding; it's great for the baby and it's great for the mom. Well, World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action is trying to inform people about the links between good nutrition, food security poverty reduction and breastfeeding.
Let's talk breastfeeding. Babies gotta eat, am I right? Even though we know the positive stats surrounding breastfeeding, there is still a stigma around breastfeeding, formula feeding and all of it in general. Women being shammed for breastfeeding their babies, women being shammed for feeing their babies formula. In a world where we are trying to empower women, why do we keep tearing them down based on the ways they chose to feed their babies?
Everyone always asks me if I plan on breastfeeding this little babe. The truth, yes I plan on breastfeeding. It's been proven to be the best way to feed your baby. But, at the end of the day, I plan on doing whatever I can to feed this little human. If that means chewing up food like a bird and re-feeding it to her, well damn, I'm gonna feed that baby. If that means formula, done.
I think World Breastfeeding Week is absolutely incredible. Feeding our babies should be our number 1 goal. But maybe we should focus on healthy babies and leave the mom-shaming out of it. Yes, my best intentions are to breastfeeding, but my greatest intention is to be the best mama to this little one.
Now, let's chat Bun Maternity and some tips to breastfeeding. Their goal is to provide cute clothes to mamas everywhere, making breastfeeding easier.
Since I'm a newbie to this mom thing, I recruited my best friends and family to help me with some breastfeeding tips. Luckily for me, I've got a plethora of amazing mamas who are helping me through this mama thing.
Did you breastfeed your baby? What are your tips? Tell me everything!

I've been wearing this sweatshirt all through maternity! It's the coziest.
- Stay calm! Go to a zen place in your mind and your milk will flow like Niagara Falls! Literally think happy thoughts because if you are stressed or upset (which is so easy to be at first when the baby won’t latch and you don’t really know what you’re doing) your milk will literally shut off. Be patient with yourself - this is new but your body does the work for you. Give it time and know that you are doing good
- Massage your boobs before you feed when starting out. You have milk ducts all the way in your arm pit (you’ll find this out when your milk comes in and it’s rock solid over there for the first few days!) but massaging really helps get the flow to start and helps the baby want to latch if they get a little teaser taste.
- Count dirty diapers to ensure she's getting enough milk/food.
- Those first few days at home - try different places to nurse to find what’s comfortable for you.
- Get a milk grabber. These are pumps that aren’t really pumps but they suction onto your boob that you aren’t feeding on and catch the leaking! So no wasted breast milk! I got this one: The NatureBond Silicone Manual Breast Pump Breastfeeding Milk Saver Suction.
- Have pineapple juice handy, it helps alleviate mastitis.
- Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t happen right away! My first day breast feeding my daughter was amazing but then the second day was awful! She wouldn’t latch, she was screaming and I was super stressed out (and that was still in the hospital!) but I ended up breastfeeding her until 18 months so just try to stay positive.
- Lansinoh nipple cream, trust me and disposable pads handy - the beginning few weeks - you go through a few and the disposables where easier than the reusable ones at first. Buy the disposables here.
- Make sure the nurses put the baby on your breast (kangaroo style - naked baby to your chest (no clothes) as soon as it is possible.
- Take a class before you deliver
- The first few weeks it hurts (regardless of a good latch or not)- I had the pads that you could heat or freeze - they were so helpful throughout the entire time. You can buy those pads here!
- Ask for a lactation nurse at the hospital before you leave - maybe the second day after delivery (have them watch you latch multiple times - ask questions - take full advantage of their knowledge - have your partner/husband there taking notes (helps at home).
- Find a mom group - ask questions.
- If the baby is crying while they eat or having a lot of spit up - look at your diet. Check for things like gluten and dairy, maybe even tomatoes.
- Try different breastfeeding positions - once my c-section got better - I loved laying down to feed. But football was my go to in the very beginning because it didn’t have pressure on my c-section.
- You'll have to have a little humor when you leak or milk sprays all over - or when you shower and for a second think of the baby and there goes the milk.
- Overall - trust your gut and be kind to yourself - there are a lot of changes after delivering and the 4th trimester is constant of them - ask for help!
One thing I do know about breastfeeding is I will be wearing these darling sweatshirts from Bun Maternity. They are so cute and comfortable but have a secret opening to make breastfeeding so easy!
This top is so soft and has such a cute back.
The perfect little opening.

Pregnancy throws a lot of crazy things at ya. But, one thing I'm sure of, cute clothes make the 10 months go much faster. Kimi + Kai has some adorable clothes at great prices and they make you feel pretty when you don't always feel great.
Kimi + Kai has everything from jeans to tops to dresses, plus they have clothes for baby too!
The thing I love about this dress is it works for nursing too! It has a secret zipper perfect for those nursing sessions. They've got it all and you've gotta check them out!
This dress is one of my favorites. I love the grey/black combo with the lace.

I really love the lace detail on this top. It's perfect to dress up jeans.
Plus, it super flatters the bump.
My real question is how do I pose without a bump?

Pretty sure this was the last time I wore heels :)

What are some of your favorite maternity brands?
Happy Friday friends and Happy June! It's crazy to me that we are already half way through the year! I swear every month goes faster and faster. Sorry I've been MIA, life has been crazy busy, this whole growing a human thing is harder than I thought. Next week I'll have a full life update on the blog + some fun new happenings.
I'm officially more than 6 months pregnant (26 weeks to be exact) and I think I'm finally getting this pregnancy thing down, or at least getting the hang of it. When I first started this journey I had no clue what to expect, what I thought it would be like or what my body would do. 6 months in and I still don't know much, but I know what I need to help me through.
ONE // A Heating Pad. I swear, I hit 22 weeks and my back was done with being pregnant. It hurt all the time, my hips ached and my feet were sore. Cue, the heating pad. I swear I couldn't live without it. I use it in bed, when I work at my desk, sit on the couch. It's a lifesaver. Do yourself a favor and get one asap. Here's a good cheap one from Amazon!
TWO // Prenatal massages. Do your body a favor and book a prenatal massage. Life. Changing. Make sure when you schedule it you tell them you're pregnant. The massage is different and you want to make sure your masseuse knows what they're doing. I also checked with my doc first to make sure it was okay. When I was on bedrest I wasn't allowed to get them, so always check!
THREE // Comfortable dresses. I am enjoying a nice hot Denver summer and honestly, pants sound like some weird version of hell to me. I hate wearing pants so dresses have become my saving grace. I know you've heard me talk about Pink Blush before, but guys I'm seriously obsessed. These Pink Blush dresses are perfect because I can dress them up, down, sandals, heels and they are so comfortable (& cool!). They have everything from maternity dresses and clothes to non-maternity. dresses and clothes.
FOUR // Snacks. Hear me out. Yes, you're always hungry. But, eating huge meals hurts like hell. The ugly side of pregnancy includes upset stomachs, gas, crampy feelings, heartburn, ect. To avoid that, snacks are the best. I try and eat small meals throughout the day instead of three main meals. Lara bars, fruit, bananas. Keep them in your purse, in your car because when hunger strikes its almost as if you're dying. I wish I was being dramatic.
FIVE // Sandals. This goes hand in hand with comfortable dresses. Everyone needs a good pair of sandals and in my opinion ones you don't have to strap because lets face it, bending over sucks.
SIX // A Good Book. I just had my glucose test doctors appointment and I was there for over 2 hours. Ultrasounds take a while, pediatrician meet and greets make you sit forever therefore a good book is mandatory. My top three books right now, Bread & Wine, Babywise and The Woman in Cabin 10.

I love this black dress because it doesn't ride up and the shoulder cutouts make me feel fancy.

Happy Friday friends! And to all my pregnant friends and mamas out there, what are your second trimester must haves?

Happy Thursday friends! Hey, thanks for all the sweet messages on my post yesterday! You guys are so sweet and encouraging, I adore you all. Adam and I didn't get to celebrate yet since he's traveling for work, but Saturday we're planning a day in Boulder. So if you have recommendations, send them my way!
The other night, Adam and I were chatting and he mentioned how this is my last Mother's Day without a baby on the outside. I swear there are times during this pregnancy where I realllyyy realize I'm actually pregnant. I know that sounds weird since I am pregnant, but you know what I mean. Him saying that was one of those times. This time next year I'll be holding my daughter on Mother's Day. Crazy!
Mother's Day is just around the corner and there's no time like the present to celebrate moms everywhere. Ingrid & Isabel has quickly become one of my favorite clothing stores for maternity and even non-maternity. It's hard to find cute stuff, thats comfortable and that isn't just leggings. But, on the topic of leggings, their leggings are the best! Anyways, I've been looking for cute dresses that I can dress up (sneakers) or down (sandals) <-- lets be real long gone are the days of heels.
Ingrid & Isabel is rocking this month especially because they're offering 15% off all first purchases using the promo code MothersMay. Do yourself and all the moms in your life a favor and spoil them with some Ingrid & Isabel this Mothers Day. Or heck, check it out for yourself. they have the cutest stuff.

To all the mamas out there, thank you for all you do. God knows you're strong, powerful, badass, hardworking, dedicated and doing everything you can to keep those little babies (even if they're 30) safe. I'm glad there is a whole day dedicated to you. Ps. Teach me your tricks because I'm already nervous and still have a whole 4 1/2 months to prep!
This is my "I can't believe I'm pregnant face."

Sweet little babe.

Before I was pregnant I didn't really know much about being pregnant. I've watched close friends and family go through pregnancy and too be honest, these woman are badasses because they made it seem pretty dang easy. While being pregnant is not all oreo cookies and baby clothes, it's not that terrible either.
Yes, the first few months are hard and taxing and learning new things about your body is interesting, but, there are some pregnancy perks. I was a little skeptical to these pregnancy at first because I don't love asking other people for help with things I can normally do on my own. See #3. But then when my doc put me on modified best rest, I sat back and starting reeling in some of the pregnancy benefits.
ONE // When you're hungry, you can say you're eating for two. Or if its something you're craving, you blame the craving on the baby. My favorite phrase, "It's for the baby." I tell Adam this every weekend when I want a chiptole chicken burrito bowl.
TWO // You get to go shopppping! This is my favorite perk. Sure, I love my leggings and oversized shirts, but every now and then a girl needs to get dressed up. PinkBlush has some of the cutest maternity clothes and dresses. Perfect timing for spring! I love that their maternity dresses could easily transition to post-pregnancy life too!
THREE // You can't pick things up. At first I thought this would be annoying but now I don't have to take out the garbage, carry laundry up the stairs or move boxes. Adam, I apologize for this pregnancy perk because it requires you do a lot more. But thanks for being my superhero hubs. You're the real MVP.
FOUR // You have to stay away from certain things, like windex, 409, and bleach. Bring on the cleaning ladies, or men. This is a perk I hope to hold on to way after pregnancy ends. Because then, I don't want to have the baby around that stuff either.
FIVE // When people find out you're pregnant, they're usually nicer. I say usually because sometimes they're meaner. But, most people hold the doors, let you cut in line, carry things for you. Ladies, take advantage. Last night when my gf and I were at Union Station, tons of people held the door, let me go in front of them, order first. It was pretty dang sweet.
SIX // You get to decorate a new room in your house. Adam and I have lived in our house for over 2 years and our token baby room has been empty! We now have an excuse to paint it pink, buy new furniture and finally have a finished room!
SEVEN // You get three months vacay at the end. Hahaha I can just hear Rachel from Friends saying, "My idea of a vacation does not involve something sucking on my nipples until they are raw." But still, three months with your baby.

Still figuring out how to pose with a baby bump.
This dress is my favorite and I cannot wait to wear it even after baby.

This dress is perfect for spring and summer!
Plus, its comfy and hides the big bump!
Laughing my way through this shoot because it's still so surreal.
Happy Thursday friends! What were the perks you loved during your pregnancy?
